2007 Cabela's National Team Championship

Well, I sure have cabin fever, and I’m guessing that most of you have too! Can’t wait for fishing weather…warm fishing weather! The reason for this note is to give you an update on the Cabela’s NTC. They’ve been doing things a little differently than I’m used to, so I’ve been waiting to hear from them before I even mention anything. It’s official: the 2007 NTC tournament will be held on June 8 and 9, 2007 at Green Bay, Wi. They did give us 11 slots, so the top 11 teams in our Team of the Year standings will be eligible to attend. There is one difference this year – the CWA will not be covering the entry fees for this event. Each team will be responsible for the $200 entry fee themselves. This entry fee has to be into me asap, as Cabela’s wants all of the entry fees in to them by March 1, 2007. That doesn’t give us much time, but what can you do?! I will be contacting one member from each qualifying team shortly with details. If you know your team can not attend, please let me know asap, so that I can offer that slot to the next team in line.

It’s my understanding, now, that we will not know how many slots Cabela’s will be granting us before the season starts. At the end of our tournament season, I, along with all of the other qualifying clubs, will submit our total results to Cabela’s. After they have received all of the results from all of the clubs, they then figure how many slots to give each organization. Their decision is based on the size of the club, participants, etc. compared to other clubs. While they’re doing that, they’ll also be trying to find, and book a location for that event. It would be nice if they could get this done a bit earlier, but that’s just the way it is. In spite of it all, everyone that I know that has gone to one or more of these NTC events, says it’s a lot of fun and excitement.

As far as our tournaments, I’d sure like to see some more entries! I will be sending out start position cards as soon as I start drawing positions. Don’t forget that we’re having a picnic on Saturdays at the point tournaments. The club is providing the main dish and utensils, and you should all bring a side dish.

Oh by the way…don’t forget to come to the banquet on Feb. 24. Come out and support our club and show our top Teams of the Year some friendly support!!! It’ll be good food, good people and good fun! I hope to see you all there!
